Second life for windowsill tiles in the Centrale Markthal
In the Centrale Markthal, there is a beautiful steel bay window that was heavily affected by corrosion. Due to the expansion of the steel caused by rust, the old blue windowsill tiles were pushed loose, and some of them were damaged as a result.
To be able to remove the steel structure, the tiles were removed one by one, numbered, and temporarily stored. The structure was restored and reinstalled, and the tiles that could be preserved were placed back in their original positions. The broken tiles were glued together, and for the tiles that couldn’t be salvaged, new ones were made. As a result, the windowsill has been restored to its former glory.
