Erfgoedparade, the discovery of the Central Market Hall.

The Central Market Hall in Amsterdam West will open to the public this summer with the theater production 'The Discovery of the Central Market Hall'.

The Central Market Hall in Amsterdam West, an enormous national monument that has been hidden on the grounds of the Food Center since 1934, will open to the public this summer with the theater production ‘The Discovery of the Central Market Hall’. Actors, musicians, and dancers together tell the story of multicultural Amsterdam in a multimedia and theatrical journey of discovery.

Ellen Klaus, production manager of the Heritage Parade, says: “The Central Market Hall is a huge building in the heart of the city, but hardly anyone has been there. Owner BOEi started the heritage parade to connect these types of buildings with cultural creators, making it possible to create special performances. Anyone curious about Amsterdam’s biggest secret is welcome to come and discover it.”

Erris van Ginkel, theater maker, says: “The production brings the Central Market Hall to life, so that visitors better understand where they are and what the significance of this building has been. The Central Market Hall – and the food offered there – has played a special role in the transformation of Amsterdam into a multicultural community.”

Tickets for the production ‘The Discovery of the Central Market Hall’ cost €12.50 for adults and €9.75 for children up to 12 years old and participants of the VriendenLoterij.

The performance dates are: Saturday, July 8th, Sunday, July 16th, Saturday, July 22nd, Sunday, July 30th, Saturday, August 5th, Sunday, August 13th, Saturday, August 19th, and Sunday, August 27th.
