FUTURE

FUTURE

After restoration and repurposing, the Centrale Markthal offers spaces for both startups and established businesses engaged in local, fresh, and sustainable entrepreneurship. Beyond food, one can also envision areas dedicated to culture, fashion, music, and theater. We envision a place where young talent can connect around themes and ambitions bubbling beneath the surface of this city. A place where young individuals who feel unheard can find a home. With a diverse, accessible, and varied program that everyone can participate in.

Repurposing of the Centrale Markthal and Food Center Amsterdam
The Centrale Markthal has been closed off from the city for over 80 years, accessible only to food traders. The site is located amidst three Amsterdam neighborhoods: Bos en Lommer, Landlust, and Staadsliedenbuurt. Following the restructuring of the Food Center Amsterdam, a completely new residential area will be added: Marktkwartier West. On the north side of the Centrale Markthal, a new, more compact Food Center is emerging, and on the south side, new homes and a beautiful city square are planned.

BOEi is the owner of the Centrale Markthal, the enormous building that will soon have the largest solar panel roof in the city. We are a non-profit social enterprise and, over the past 25 years, have given more than 100 such unique monuments in the Netherlands a new future. We aim to make the Centrale Markthal a space for a large and diverse group of Amsterdammers. A place where residents, neighbors, food professionals, and enthusiasts from all cultures come together in a shared passion for food, culture, and innovation.

The planning process for the Centrale Markthal is in full swing and welcomes new ideas. Currently, BOEi is seeking strategic partners to collaborate in the planning.

We would love to hear from you if you have good ideas!
