The secret behind ice!
Turbid, clear and instant ice.

Making ice cream seems simple, but there is much more to it than meets the eye. Whether you encounter ice cream in Amsterdam or make your own at home, the science behind it is fascinating. Have you ever wondered why the ice cream you take out of the freezer is often cloudy? This is because it freezes too fast, trapping air bubbles and small impurities. Clear ice, on the other hand, melts more slowly and is perfect for in your drink. To make clear ice, you can boil water first or let it freeze slowly. This way, you remove air and impurities, which not only makes your glass look better, but also keeps your drink cooler for longer without diluting too much.

Amsterdam made of ice
This exhibition offers a unique, icy look at the transformation of Amsterdam. From a small fishing village in the 13th century to the bustling metropolis of today, this exhibition takes visitors on a visual journey through time. From historical figures like Anne Frank and Johnny Jordaan, to the iconic canals, Het Paleis van Volksvlijt, the Red Light District and the architecture of the Paleis op de Dam – each work of art has been carved from ice with extreme precision.
