INTRODUCING: Pim Boomgaard, Central Market Hall Restoration Supervisor

Pim Boomgaard was the first tenant of the restored spaces on the western side of the Central Market Hall.

INTRODUCING
Room 78 | Pim Boogaard | Central Market Hall Restoration Supervisor
Pim Boomgaard was the first ‘resident’ of the Central Market Hall, establishing himself in the first room next to the communal space on the second floor. He was tipped off about this unique location and interesting job as a Central Market Hall restoration supervisor by a former colleague. Alongside his colleague Volker Vlaming, they oversee the construction.

Since late 2019, he has been wandering around this enormous cold building with a few workers between 8 am and 3:30 pm, but without immediate neighbors. Being a resident of the Central Market Hall while also coordinating the restoration work makes it highly feasible to achieve the best results.

Fortunately, the next residents, Market Central, arrived a month later. They immediately brought more liveliness to the place. Gradually, the building started to transform into a construction site. Boei appointed a tenant committee that screens new candidates monthly before they can choose a space. Now, he walks around with the workers and enjoyable new tenants. It turns out that having a construction site alongside the functioning new rooms goes quite well together.

Meanwhile, Pim began working on room layouts, deciding whether to have underfloor, wall, or ceiling heating, and considering uniformity or diversity. These are also questions that Pim addresses on behalf of BOEi. The original colors have been applied to the doors, and the old windowsill tiles are being re-fired if they are no longer complete.

He visibly enjoys the growth that this enormous complex has undergone in the past two years.
As a restoration architect, he previously worked for the Hendrick de Keijser Foundation, gaining considerable experience in the field of monuments.
