Documentary screening
We begin the evening with an intriguing documentary revealing the almost forgotten story of Zamrock. The musical heritage of 1970s Zambia. The compelling documentary shows how the music of the legendary band Witch, with its mix of British blues, funk, psychedelic and garage rock, is as powerful today as it was then. This documentary is both a search for the band and a tribute to their musical legacy.

The film follows director Gio Arlotta and two talented Dutch musicians on their search for the band Witch, and the result is an inspiring journey not to be missed.

WITCH
Zambia in the 1970s was dominated by the Zamrock movement – a genre that mixed classic British rock such as the Rolling Stones with traditional African rhythms and village songs from the bush. At the centre of all this was WITCH, or, as it was sometimes called, We Intend To Cause Havoc, a rock band that propelled psychedelic rock to new heights with their African rhythms and influences.

The band fell apart in the late 1970s, but was revived by a 2012 reissue of one of their LPs and a documentary about their extraordinary career and impact. Their first European tour soon followed, with great success, and they have not stopped since.

Markt Centraal can only be reached by our train, The Markt Centraal Express. It departs from the gate of the Food Center Amsterdam at Jan van Galenstraat 6. The train commutes all evening from 18.00-03.00.

Parking around the Food Center Amsterdam is expensive and inconvenient. Be sure to come walking, by bike or by bus (line 18 stops right in front of the gate).

The Centrale Markthal is accessible by wheelchair, there is also a MIVA toilet in the hall. The little train is unfortunately not accessible by wheelchair. If you are coming with a wheelchair, please let us know in advance. We will then sign you in at the doorman of the Food Center Amsterdam.

If cancelled up to one week before the Market Meal, a refund of the amount paid is possible minus €2 costs per person. If cancelled in the week before the Market Meal, refund of the amount paid is unfortunately not possible.
